Aluminum Industry
Aluminum is one popular metal which is widely used throughout the economy.
As a lightweight, high-strength, and recyclable structural metal, aluminum
has and will always to play an important role in the economy as applications
are extended in the aerospace, infrastructure, defense, packaging,
transportation, and construction industries. The U.S. aluminum industry is
the world's largest aluminum industry. The industry is producing about $33
billion in products and exports annually. According to a report, the U.S.
companies are the largest single producer of primary aluminum. Aluminium
Industries in India is one of the leading industries in the Indian economy.
Usually the aluminum industry falls under the category of non-iron based
which include the production of brass, lead, copper, tin, zinc, aluminum,
and manganese. Gears are one of the most wisely used product in the aluminum
industry. Not only the gears are made of aluminum but also gears are widely
used in the various manufacturing activities involved in the aluminum
industry.
Chemical Industry
The chemical industry includes the companies that are involved in the
production of industrial chemicals. Varied types of gears and gear drives
are used in the chemical industry. Special technology is always required in
the chemical industry. Gears depend on the specific application. The
requirements for the gear motors, for example, include anything from
continuous operation, long service life and special seals to the capacity to
withstand extreme axial and radial forces. Many applications in the industry
requires varied gear drives with explosion protection. Mostly, gear motors
in the chemical industry are equipped with ?aameproof motors. Case-hardened
gears with tooth ?anks are also used in the industry which ensure smooth
running in the production process. Co-axial gears with bevel gear unit or
flat gear unit are used in some applications. There are offset gears, bevel
gears and worm gears used for torques in the industry. Gear pumps are widely
used in chemical installations to pump fluid with a certain viscosity.
Grinding Mills
Grinding mills are machines designed to break down solid pieces into
smaller pieces. There are different types of grinding mills depending upon
the product that is required to be grinded. Gears are required for the
proper functioning of grinding mills. Usually a grinding mill is provided
with a gear wheel which forms part of the gear mechanism that drives the
grinding mill. The gears are used to transmit the power from a prime mover
to the high capacity grinding mill. Varied gears are used in grinding mills.
Hot and Cold Rolling Mills
Powerful gears are essential for the proper functioning of hot and cold
rolling mills. It is said that powerful gears breathe new life into rolling
mills. The power required to roll steel varies. It depends on the type of
steel used, including its thickness and width. To apply torque, gears are
used. All types of gears like bevel gears, helical gears, spur gears are
used in rolling mills. Most of the time, the gearbox operates at moderate
load. But, when a bar enters the rolling mill, the drive is subjected to a
sudden, large momentary torque. This is caused due to squeezing of the bar
between upper and lower rolls. This peak torque depend upon the gear used.
To obtain the greatest improvement in rolling mills, manufacturers are
implementing a host of advanced design in gears. The gears usually
incorporate hardened pinions with modified tooth profiles and leads. Special
materials and gear-blank fabrication techniques are applied.
