Bronze Gears
Bronze have long been an ideal material that is used for gear materials.
The Bronze Gears have been seen to possess good frictional and wear
properties while mating with the steel gears. They are particularly useful
in cases of worm meshes and also in crossed-helical meshes, this is due to a
large amount of sliding. Bronzes used for gears has good stability and
displays an excellent machinability.
The Bronze can be cast, but it has been observed that bar stock and
forgings are far better. One important thing to understand here is out of a
vast number of bronze alloys, only a few are useful for gears. However one
of the primary weakness of Bronze gears are high specific weight (highest by
far, of the available gear materials) and a high cost.

Application of Bronze Gears
- Gear pumps
Many of the gear pumps uses gears made out of Bronze and a
stainless steel shaft.

 |
- Fishing Equipment
The machine cut Bronze gears here gives an extra strength and
durability.

 |
- Wire Drawing Machines
This particular model of Fine wire drawing machine is using
Phosphorous bronze gears.
