For crushing different raw materials in cement industry, the girth gears are most commonly used. These girth gears can be run and operated under different operating conditions and environment. For these girth gears, a wide variety of lubricants are used in the gear industry. The Girth gears which are commonly used in the cement industry have outer diameter of 5000 mm and module size of 40. For rotating various equipments in the cement industry, power transmission is required, and power transmission is derived from open gear drives. Other various modern gear drives, which are economical in their operations and also can be operated under loading conditions and having long service life, are used in the cement industry. These open gearing drives are used for rotating different cement plant equipments like kilns driers, grinding mills etc.

Other important type of gears, which are used in the cement mills manufacturing, are reduction gears. The technology to manufacture these reduction gears is based upon the technology for manufacturing coal mills.

To lubricate the different cement plant gears, sprayable greases are most commonly used lubricants. The estimated quantity of these greases used in the cement industry is around 20-30 crores per annum.
