Coal Plants
Gears
and gear equipments have a wide range of applications in coal mining
activities. Heavy weight gear boxes are used for the heavy machineries used
in the coal mines. Girth gears are used in the equipments and spares used in
the sponge iron plants along with other devices. In the equipment handling
and material preparation machineries used in the coal mines, specialized
gearboxes are used. There are two basic gearing principles used in the Coal
mining industry. These two gearing principle which are used in the coal
mining are:
- Craggy reliable gearing
- Worm Gearing
These two gearing principles are used in a lot of mining machine
drives, such as axle drives for forming tunnels for the locomotives, special
cutting machines, coal drifting machineries etc.

applications
Compressors for Coal Mills
These compressors consist highly effective impellers, radially split barrel
casings. This compressor is used in the coal mines to evacuate the light gas
from the coal mines. The operational speed of this compressor is very high
and it is about 15,000 rpm. Planetary gears are used in these compressors.
By installing planetary gears, the weight of the compressor can be reduced
up to 30-40%. if the installed bevel gears are accurate, the noise level may
be reduced significantly. The bevel gears are placed inside a compact
cylindrical gear case.
Diesel and Gasoline Locomotives
Diesel and Gasoline Locomotives use gear drives. These locomotives are
manufactured in a wide varieties from 3 tons to 35 tons in weight and having
wide to narrow gauze. The inclusion of gears in itself has enhanced its
performance superiority. In these locomotives, there are one distinct type
of spur gear, three-point suspension and a transmission having a constant
mesh with four forward and reverse speeds. In these locomotives, smooth gear
change is ensured at much higher speeds and gear-stripping is completely
eliminated. In the usual system of locomotives, the smoothly gear changing
at a much higher speed is not possible.
For example, a 42" gauze 20-ton four-wheel locomotive, contains one
high speed traction motor with double reduction gears, one diesel-electric
power plant of 250 hp. Capacity and a counter balance side rods.
Trolley
Generally, the trolley locomotives consist of two motors. Each motor is
mounted on each axle and is driven by single reduction spur gear. The spur
gears are placed in suitable welded gear cases. In some trolley locomotives,
there is only one motor.
Cages
The winding gears are generally used in the deep mines to dig-out the coal
on the surface. The winding gears are also used to allow men to reach the
pit face. The cages, which are used in supplying the necessary things and
equipments, winding gears are used. The winding gears help the cages to go
down slowly in the coal mines.
