Crown Gear Drives

Crown
Gear drives or the Crown Right Angle Gear drives are essentially spiral
bevel gear drives. The features which make them popular in applications
include compactness, reliability, good design and an inexpensive way to
transfer of speed or power.
These drives are made of high quality materials, that ensures a long
service life and minimum maintenance. The Crown Gear Drives are sealed to
provide protection from outside contaminants, to stop
internal gears getting
out of alignment or jam up. This results in a smooth and quiet operation,
often in harsh conditions. Both the models, the two and three-way Crown
right angle gear drives transmit excellent power. An essential feature of
Crown right angle gear drives is the hardened spiral bevel gears along with
a non-magnetic shaft made of stainless steel. The shafts are also made
available in a wide variety. This includes, squared, splined, shortened,
stepped and extended.
Types of Crown Gear Drives
Crown right angle gear drives are found in various standard models. All the
models are specifically designed for complying with a vast range of shaft
speed and torque requirements. Some of the standard model include the
Two
way Crown Gear Drives and the
Three way Crown Gear Drives. They
are available in 1:1 and 2:1 speed ratios.

Buyers Guide to Crown Gear Drives
Before venturing on to buy a Crown Gear Drive the following hints might
prove useful in taking the right decision.
- Input/Output Ratio. Most standard ratios are of two types 1:1 and
2:1. In some cases it is also possible in getting a 1:2 ratio.
- Need for modifications: If any modification of shaft and/or housings
are needed, it is imperative to send a drawing to the factory beforehand
describing the application.
- Selecting the appropriate model: It is very important to have the
right model with the right keyways.
- Designating Input/Output shafts: It is important to know that shaft
will not turn faster than 2000 RPM. If say shaft number 2 in case of 2:1
ratio models is chosen as the input shaft, it can turn maximum at 1000
RPM. However in case of 1:1 ratio models there is no difference. The
choice of shaft will affect mounting.
- Ascertaining Torque capacity: Be sure the designated output shaft
bears a greater Torque capacity as compared to the applications load.
- Selecting the drive Type: You can choose either the
