Elevator Industry

The
function of the elevator is to convert the electrical power at the beginning
that runs the motor, to mechanical power, that is used by the system. An
elevator comprises a motor and, at common
worm gear reducer system. The gears has played a vital role in the development of elevator technologies. The development of sophisticated worm and
helical gears is a significant achievement in the field of elevator industry.
Gears are employed in the elevators with middle and low speed for having an
effective check on the revolution of motors before a supply is made to the
rope sheave. Gears are considered an integral component of low speed
elevators.
Worm and helical gears play a crucial role in the functioning of the
elevators. Together they are called as the reduction gears. The power
transmission efficiency of helical gears are higher as compared to worm
gears by around 30%. But in the elevator industry preference is given to the
worm gears. This is due to the difficulty in machining a helical gear. In
the elevator industry unless there is proper machining of gears noises and
vibrations can take place.
The elevators using helical gears are operated with a considerable
reduction in energy in contrast to elevators working with worm gears.
