Gear Pitch

To put it very simply, Gear pitch denotes the size of the tooth on a gear. There are certain accepted standard methods to work this out. This method is referred to as pitch diameter. This means simply that how much teeth of a consistent form can be accommodated, say, on a One inch gear.

Consequently higher is the pitch number, Finer/smaller the shape of the gear tooth is. The following table gives the conversion chart for Gear pitches:
