Miter Gear Drives

A
miter gear drive effectually joins a tool spindle to the drive spindle. The
main gears which are present in the miter gear drive are bevel gears, which
are fastened to the tool spindles. Sometime, where it is required very high
efficiency, instead of miter gear drives, right angle miter gear drives are
used. In these right angle miter gear drives, the motion and power are
passed on by the gears in between the shafts. These shafts are arranged in
such a form, so that these intersects each other at right angle. The
existing gears inside the Miter Gear Drive transmit (pass on) power and
motion at 1:1 speed ratio. With a long radial distance, which is present in
the miter gear drive, the miter gears normally cuts about 20° pressure
angle.
Pinions which are also present in the miter gear drives with less number of
tooth, are counter balanced with the help of the existing addendum system.
This addendum system also counter balances for tooth undercut in gears and
pinions. Generally, in an integrated mechanical system, more than one miter
gear can work together. The condition require for working together is that
all these miter gears must have equal number of pitch, pressure angles and
tooth. More than two miter gears having similar structure and nature may be
used in a set for forming differential arrangement.
Advantages of Miter Gear Drives
Miter Gear Drives are durable and the power transmission of these gear
drives are highly efficient and effective. During the operation of these
gear drives, all kind of unnecessary operations are eliminated by these
drives. These gear drives can carry heavy and bulky loads. These drives are
designed in such a way, so that the motion and power can be transmitted
effectively and fast in between the intersecting shafts.
Applications of Miter Gear Drives
These Miter Gear Drives are used in various applications. These various
applications are printing, bottling, steering, agriculture and material
handling. Apart from these, Miter gear drives are used in petroleum
industry, coal & other minings, paper industry and chemical industry. In
different industrial machineries, these gear drives are used, like in kilns,
conveyors and elevators.
Safety Provisions of Miter Gear drives
These gear drives, as a locking mechanism, should be avoided from lifting
bulky and heavy loads, because the reverse action can be hazardous.
