In
every process of power generation and power transmission, gear power
transmission equipments have been used for a long period of time. Gear
equipments support all different aspects of the power generation process.
Gear peripherals are used in different processes of power generation, like
in the gas turbine electric power generation, air pre-heater fan drives,
coal-power electrical plants any in many others. In some operators, which
are used for manufacturing electricity, rugged bevel gears are used. These
bevel gears are used in seating and unseating the high pressure gates. These
gears are also used in the global valves all around the world. To ensure
that all the torque enter into the turbine valves, the stem on the MT
operator is joined in the drive sleeves. The stem consists bevel gears and
ductile iron.
Turbo Gears
Turbo gears having high performance, gear units for rotor turning and
couplings are also used for high speed and heavy industries, like
electricity generation industry. The turbo gear units are used for
transmitting electricity up to 80 MW. Rotational speed of these gears are
approx. 80,000 rpm.
Parallel Shaft Gears
Another type of gears are used in the electricity industry. These are
called as
Parallel
shaft gears. These gears are used in this industry, because these
gears can operate continuously at a very high speed. Wheel sets, which are
used in electricity industry, may have helical or double helical gears with
or without thrust cone. Another version of parallel shaft gears, turbojet
parallel shaft gears are used in those electricity generation devices, which
require reliability. These gears can be operated at a very high speed with
high power density. Both vertical and horizontal arrangements are adaptable
for these gears. On the free shaft ends of the turbo parallel gears,
additional lubrication oil pumps and rotor turning gears can be placed.
Multi-shaft Internal Gears
Integrally geared compressions are used in the electric power industry. For
these compressions, multi-shaft
internal
gears are used. These gears are also applied, where intermediate
cooling of the medium is used and integrating different power machines is
required in the electricity power industry. The gears are used in expansion
turbines, electric motor and steam/gas turbines.
Planetary Gears
Planetary gears are used in different applications of power industry. The
most common uses of the planetary gears are in high speed turbo system,
bowlers and pumps. All these devices are used in the electric power
generation.
