Spur Gear Drives

Spur
Gear Drives, there is a small
pinion gear that drives a large gear. The common gear ratio of this gear drive lies in between of 6:1 to 10:1 range. The average gear error starts to decrease along with the increasing
magnitude of gear drive ratio. This is due to the decreasing number of
meshing teeth with the increasing value of gear ratio. By lubricating, the
stiffness of this gear drive can be reduced. This smoothness is so
important, because with the greater degree of smoothness, the functioning
efficiency of the gear drive increases.
Spur gear drives have high degree of smoothness and therefore, these gear
drives are used in astronomical telescopes with high resolution position.
The
Spur Gear is used as a drive system by the servo system. The drive system made from the spur gear is used to drive the servo motor to rectify the gear errors. This rectification is based upon the actual rotation of the
telescope axis.
The
helical gear drives are the modified form of straight cut spur gear drives, because in helical gear drive, the number of teeth meshing increases which in turn provides more gear errors. The efficiency level of the straight cut spar gear system is high and also this gear system provides
back driving.
Applications of Spur Gear Drives
- These spur gear drives are suitable for food processing and for
production of equipments which are used in food processing.
- Assist in increasing the production of packaging machineries.
- Help in improving the performance with smaller dimensions.
- Increase the machines operational reliability along with their
service life.
- These drives avert the use of very expensive materials in the
machineries, which in turn decrease the operational cost.
- These drives are also used for bio-compatibility purpose.
- These gear drives can be manufactured with planetary gearing.
Features of Spur Gear Drives
With less number of teeth, Spur Gear Drives can drive the bulky and heavy
gears within it with the help of small and parallel gears, which have less
number of teeth. It requires low cost to manufacture the Spur Gears Drives.
Therefore, these Spur Gear Drives are mostly used in those applications,
where cost is given more importance rather than the noisiness. These drives
are also known to be used in low power applications. The drawback of these
gear drives is that these become useless for those photographs, which have
been kept openly and get exposed.
