Worm Gears for Steel Plant
On screw down mechanisms, the applications of some largest
worm gears sets are useful. These screw down mechanisms are applicable on automated steel strip mills. The strength and reliability are the two most important factors for the steel products. Hence, the use of the worm gears are preferred on most of the machines used in the steel plants. For instance, in the tube and wire drawing machines and in the metal shearing machines, the worm gears are used, and the ratios normally varies from 2.5 to 3.0.
Bevel & Spiral Bevel Gears for Steel

In the hand drill machines, the bevel gears are used as a principle
mechanism. The directions of the rotation of the handle of the hand drill
and the chunk are just opposite of each other. This is possible due to the
presence of bevel gears in the hand drills. Apart from this, the bevel gears
also help in increasing the speed of the chunk present in the hand drill and
this as a result, helps the hand drill in drilling a wide range of
materials.
In Steel Plants, there are different types of rotatory craft drive systems
are used. Spiral bevel gears are used in these drive systems as important
components. The present of spiral bevel gears assist these drive systems in
increasing their speeds, extreme load cycles and high loads. The spiral
bevel gears also help in shifting the direction form the horizontal gas
turbine engine to vertical rotor. In the plate bending machines, which are
used in the steel plants, planetary gear units are used.
